Cannonball and his sister, Elizabeth, were the most recent additions to Sinister's Elite Mutant Force that inhabits the Breeding Pens. Hungry to rise in their rankings, the two were promised the promotion from Rookie to Prelate if they sided with Havoc when he overthrew his brother Cyclops as head of the Pens. They two were last seen when they encountered the Bedlam Brothers, Jesse and Terrence Aaronson, former members of the Elite Mutant Force who defected and joined Cyclops. Terrence caused flooded Sam's thoughts during their skirmish, causing him to cannonball himself into a wall. It is unknown whether or not the Guthries gained consciousness and it is probable that they were annihilated along with everyone else in America during the Human High Council's pre-emptive strike.
Recently, the Gurthie Family attacked the White House and fought the X-Men. However, when they attacked the Xavier Mansion, Cannonball and his brother, Josh, were crushed to death by Magneto.
