Lady Mastermind

• Lady Mastermind is Regan Wyngarde, the daughter of the original Mastermind, Jason Wyngarde, and half-sister of Martinique Jason, also known as Mastermind. She has the ability to telepathically scan the minds of other people and implant multi-sensory illusions based on their thoughts directly into their minds. She is also an ally of Sebastian Shaw.
• In her first appearance, X-TREME X-MEN#6, Regan was involved in the death of a man named Miles Warbeck, a crime lord also known as Viceroy, whom Gambit had been accused of killing. Viceroy had seemingly suffocated in a normal room, but Regan had actually killed him with an illusion by making him believe that he was trapped at the bottom of the ocean until he “drowned”. Through investigation, the mutant Sage of the X-Treme X-Men team discovered that someone with illusion-casting powers was involved with the death. While her teammates searched for Viceroy’s children, Sage underwent subtle but strange changes, such as a change in costume (from her X-uniform to her old Hellfire Club outfit) and a change in environment (from her hotel suite in Sydney, Australia to her old Victorian-style room at the Hellfire Club). She eventually encountered Lady Mastermind and rendered her unconscious. However, Regan’s illusions still persisted, despite lack of consciousness, and Sage ended up a prisoner of Regan’s ally, Sebastian Shaw.
• Next, in X-TREME X-MEN#7, Lady Mastermind trapped Sage in one of her sophisticated illusions, ripping her world to shreds by opening within Sage’s mind a never-ending series of doors. These doors showed one crucial stage of Sage’s life after another, with all of the X-related ones becoming more and more menacing while the Hellfire Club ones became more and more comforting and natural. In essence, Lady Mastermind was attempting to brainwash Sage for Sebastion Shaw, who wanted Sage back under his thumb. When Sage’s teammates, Rogue and Gambit, arrived to save her, Lady Mastermind trapped Rogue within her illusions so that she and Sebastian Shaw could use Rogue to murder other crime lords like Viceroy in Shaw's attempt to become head of the Australian underworld.
• In X-TREME X-MEN#8, Lady Mastermind’s illusions nearly caused Rogue to kill her own teammates in the X-Treme team. Lady Mastermind herself was defeated when Thunderbird disabled her with a solar plasma beam. However, since Regan’s power still operates even when she's unconscious, Sage was still trapped in Lady Mastermind’s intricate illusion, seemingly lobotomized.
• In X-TREME X-MEN#9, Lady Mastermind recovered and caught X-Treme ally Lifeguard invading the illusion in which she had trapped Sage. Since Lifeguard was the daughter of Viceroy, Regan decided to kill her as a part of Shaw’s plans to rule the Australian underworld. For a while, Regan used her illusion powers on both Sage and Lifeguard, tormenting them both at the same time. Unfortunately for Regan, Sage finally fought back and outsmarted her, causing Regan’s illusion form to be struck by a hallucinatory bullet meant for Sage. The illusion ended and Sage, along with Lifeguard, were freed.
• Regan was last seen sitting in a wheelchair inside a Sydney hospital, trapped in a catatonic state.
• SIDE NOTE: Lady Mastermind and the other female Mastermind, Martinique Jason (introduced in UNCANNY X-MEN#401-406), were intended to be the same person, and the reason for their different looks would have been because of an illusion (sort of similar to the way their father made himself look handsome and dashing with his powers even though he was actually rather homely). But, story discrepancies forced the editors/writers to make Martinique and Regan two different individuals who were sisters that shared the same father, the original Mastermind.
• Damn, this character is a hot one. Not only is Regan gorgeous, but she's also an awesome character whose legacy is tied to an old, long-standing X-Villain. Not only that, but Regan is one tough customer with those powers of hers. She's quite the skilled illusionist indeed! She needs to make a comeback for sure!
