Magik
- Although her birth name is Jimaine Szardos, Magik is Amanda Sefton, the daughter of Gypsy sorceress, Margali Szardos. She is the mistress of Limbo. She is a sorceress with vast powers, including teleportation, astral projection, mystic blasts, flight, and more. She can also summon and use the Soulsword, the physical manifestation of Limbo. In her own words, Amanda is a trained medium with acute ESP and, with the possible exception of Dr. Strange, is the most highly trained occultist currently living. She is also served by two serpentines, Brad and Roger.
- Amanda grew up in her mother’s circus in Bavaria, where she first met Nightcrawler, her former love interest. After Nightcrawler left to join the X-Men, Amanda followed him shortly thereafter, disguising herself as a flight attendant. She met up with Nightcrawler again and resumed their relationship, although he had no idea for a while that she was Jimaine, his childhood friend and greatest love.
- Sometime later, Amanda joined Excalibur after Nightcrawler left the X-Men to be with that team. She also was possessed by the Shadow King for a time after he took over Muir Island. At some point, her relationship with Nightcrawler soured and ended.
- Amanda’s life came to a turning point when her mother Margali obtained the Soulsword and used it to murder other sorcerers so that she could obtain a mystical power called the Winding Way. However, the demon Belasco, ruler of Limbo, captured Margali, but Amanda and Nightcrawler rescued her mother and defeated Belasco. To prevent Belasco from regaining control over Limbo, Amanda took the Soulsword and adopted the identity of Magik, which caused people to believe that she was the original bearer of that name, Illyana Rasputin, who was dead. As Magik, Amanda helped the X-Men defeat the alien N’Garai and she also helped prevent the destruction of Limbo and other demonic realms by forging a union between herself and the other rulers, such as Dormammu and Mephisto.
- Recently, Amanda helped Nightcrawler investigate the occult death of thirteen children orchestrated by a demon bent on freeing others of his kind. She also helped him investigate the mystery of a subway train haunted by the ghosts of men accidentally killed during an explosion/cave-in as the subway tunnel was being built. After that, Amanda assisted Nightcrawler in battle against the Hive, a demonic entity who sought the Soulsword, which had been hidden inside Nightcrawler by Amanda for safe keeping for fear that some evil mystic force would steal it and use it for sinister purposes.
