WHO IS SKEIN?

• The woman called Skein is Sybil Dvorak, a socialite, sometimes cult leader, and sex club owner from Foscani, Romania, who operates in Los Angeles, California. Raised by Gypsies, Sybil spent a lot of time alone nurturing her and focusing on her mutant powers. She loved the sensation of fiber such as soft weaves and flowers felt to her mental touch since hard objects felt abrasive to her. In her loneliness, she wove herself gossamer wings as delicate as her personality. She then met a local actor named Jason Reed who was starring in a remake of the movie Dracula being filmed on location in Romania. He romanced her and seduced her with promises of fame as he flew her home with him to his home in California. Reed, however, was constantly away from the house and she began imagining that he was having affairs behind her back. She wove herself a costume and began calling herself Gypsy Moth as she wreaked havoc attacking gatherings in search of Reed (special thanks to www.marvunapp.com for this information).
• Skein's first appearance as Gypsy Moth was in SPIDER-WOMAN#10, where she and Jessica fought at one of the kinds of parties that Sybil liked to stalk. During the melee, Sybil used her powers to unweave Spider-Woman's costume, bind her with it, and drown her in a pool. Later, Spider-Woman's boyfriend, SHIELD agent Jerry Hunt shot one of Sybil's wings and damaged it. Spider-Woman saved her, but she ended up letting her go because she felt a strange kinship with Gypsy Moth. Sybil fought Spider-Woman twice more, in CONTEST OF CHAMPIONS#1 and SPIDER-WOMAN#48, and they also met up in SPIDER-WOMAN#50.
• For a while, Sybil was a member of the Shroud's Night Shift, having joined them in CAPTAIN AMERICA#330. She was also a part of Superia's Femizons in CAPTAIN AMERICA#388-391. And, Sybil was a part of the Hangman's Night Shift in AVENGERS WEST COAST#76-79.
• Eventually, Gypsy Moth turned up as a member of the Crimson Cowl's Masters of Evil in THUNDERBOLTS# 64-65, but she jumped ship when she found out that the Cowl planned on taking control of her and other super-villains with a biotoxin that had been implanted within their bodies by the Cowl's father, Justin Hammer. Sybil joined a new version of the Thunderbolts led by the Avenger, Hawkeye; and, in THUNDERBOLTS#67, Gypsy Moth fashioned a new identity and costume for herself as SKEIN.
• After the Crimson Cowl was finally defeated, by Skein herself, who used her power to unravel the Cowl's costume and render her helpless, Sybil left the Thunderbolts. However, just before she did, Skein propositioned Songbird to join her at one of her clubs, revealing herself to be bisexual. Songbird promptly turned her down.
