SPECTRA

• Spectra is Selena Slate, former laboratory assistant to Dr. Charles Fong. The synthetic diamond's mysterious energies transformed Selena into a living rainbow and gave her superhuman agility, speed and the power of flight. She could generate different frequencies of light and focus them through the diamond for various effects. GREEN: optical distortion properties that could be used to project images; ORANGE: produces a beam that can burn through solid steel; BLUE: strips heat from the air for a chilling effect (sort of like DC's Killer Frost); RED: creates a beam of extreme force; YELLOW: causes searing heat; PURPLE: induces pain by attacking the nervous system; and WHITE: has hypnotic properties. There was also a frequency addictive to Sleepwalker that made him hallucinate and behave as though he was totally mad. Oddly enough, if her prism's power was reflected back on her, it would cause Spectra pain.
• Spectra first appeared in SLEEPWALKER#13. She battled Sleepwalker several times and ended their final encounter by driving him mad with the power of her prism. The next time they met up, in SLEEPWALKER#29, Spectra aided Sleepwalker against his enemy, Psyko. For the most part, Selena wasn't really bad. Her boyfriend had been hooked on drugs and she had agreed to help steal the prism from Dr. Fong in order to make money to buy him more drugs. After she realized that her boyfriend was a good-for-nothing junkie, she left him, but not before her transformation into Spectra. SIDE NOTE: Spectra once shared a kiss with Sleepwalker! Man, I'd love to see Spectra again! Just look at her! Not only does she look totally cool, but her powers are interesting. She was definitely my favorite character in the entire SLEEPWALKER series!
