Genosha is the symbolic capital of Magneto's mutant kingdom. At one point, it was the most technologically advanced society on the planet, due entirely to its Mutate population. Mutates were an underclass of mutants reduced to living automata by the Genoshan government. That all changed the day a mutant attack force lead Magneto and his best friend, Charles Xavier, took over the island and freed the Mutates.
Eventually, Magneto converted the island into the capital of his ever expanding mutant empire; when he finally led the mutants to victory in the Mutant-Human War, Magneto made the site of one of humankind's most most monstrous crimes the capital of the new mutant-ruled world.
Genosha is currently the home of Magneto and his family as well as his Royal Guard, a brotherhood of mutants brought together by Magneto. Made up of many of mutants who were closest to him during the Mutant-Human War, this group consists of Magneto's most trusted allies. They serve as bodyguards as well as emissaries for Magneto and his family around the world and would give their lives for him without a second thought. In their minds, he is their lord and savior. He delivered them from extinction and has earned their supreme loyalty.
