NEW DIRECTIONS

So,I took a trip out to CW just to try to explain better directions for all those who are still getting lost. Hey, it happens a lot, quite frequently actually. Anyway I killed two birds with one stone this trip. I had never went out to the site by myself, until now. With a pen and paper marking every mile, here's the best I can do for you. So if you cannot find it, I can't help you any better than this, so please don't e-mail for directions anymore.

Turn at the BP station in Mt. View, on Mt. View Rd. First off, reset your odometer, so you can go by the mileage I have listed. After you are on Mt. View road travel exactly 3.5 miles, then turn right. Drive 0.8 of a mile and you will arrive at the first pull off to the left side of the road, looks like a four-wheeler trail. You can follow that trail, it's a bit of a walk, but when you come to what looks like a bit of a clearing, to your right is a small trail, look close for the old rock work at the begining of this trail, it's kinda grown over, just follow the trail, and you'll see the place. Although it's a pretty pitiful site by now, tree's have fell over what little remained, it's falling fast, soon to be a pile of bricks.

Well, if you would like to take the second way, pass the first pull off. Travel till your odometer reads .11, at .11 there is a three way, go left till you reach .13. Turn off to the right, get out cross the road. There is a really wide trail going down the side of the mountainside here. And as I recall there's some read paint on the trees. But don't follow these markings, you will get lost. Anyway, go down about 150 yards. To the left you'll see a trail that you could mistake for a dried stream bed, travel down it. Keep going down, and try to keep to your right. If you walk to where the trail is really steep, like, you might fall steep, you've gone the wrong way, turn around go back up. It might be wise to do a leave a trail of bread crumbs so you don't get lost in these woods. Seriously I've been there numerous times, and still got a bit lost my last trip. So be careful. There are a lot of trails... look for the pond, just a dried up hole in the ground, but it has a brief bridge leading on to the manor. Good luck, this is the best I can do. So don't get lost in these woods!

(Old directions) O.k. This is for those that keep e-mailing me for directions. I say it's harder than you think to try and describe these curvy roads, pull offs ,trails, woods ...etc. so here goes:

Take HWY 27 from summerville to Mountain view (trion) Turn right at the BP station, Go ALL THE WAY straight down that road. You'll start to go up the mountain. The road will turn into a dirt road. Soon after, you'll come upon a 3 way, go RIGHT. About 3-5 miles or so. Anyways, you stay on the dirt road, and keep an eye to the left. It's around a real sharp curve ( yeah, I just described the whole road) and there is a pull-off on the left. You'll know you're on the right track if you see a trail, with 3 or 4 dirt mounds blocking the beginning of it.I think theres a white X or cross on a big rock to help you find your way. Start walking, this will also take a while, look for marks spray painted on the trees and follow them. untill you get to a tree blocking the trail, don't worry,to the left is a smaller trail that will circle around the tree. Soon after you'll come to a small clearing, veer to your right, and you'll see the trail again, with big chunks of rock from where the gate was. You can go that way, it's known as the long trail, or instead of using that pull off, there is another one up the road. Pass the first pull off , then there is another 3 way, take the left one. Very shortly after, you'll see a visible pull off to the right where you can park. But this way may be confusing and could easily get you lost, because there are a few different trials leading down the mountain side. You'll take the bigger trail,I think it's the first one. I also remember something noticed to help me remember the right path, look into the tree limbs at the road, there is a pink ribbon hanging from one of the trees branches and you take the trail below it. All the way down, it's steep. Remember when going down,if you think you might be going wrong or happen across trails crossing, stick to the one that leads down, and to the left. You'll know your there when you see where the pond was dug out and there is a the trail starts to look like a dirt bridge, the pond to the left, ridge drops off at the right. Well, it's kinda hard to give directions through the woods ... know what I mean? Seems like everyone gets lost when they first try to find the remains of the manor. Just so you know that, thats the best I can direct. Be sure to where bright colors, it is hunting grounds, and try to keep away from the crazies that do go out there. It's best to have the place to yourself really. Another thing is lock your vehical, there has been some things stolen from peoples cars when they leave them. And be sure to at least take a cell-phone, just in case. Although it is on the mountain, and you probably cant get a signal unless you wander around for hours. Hope this helps and you make it. AND PLEASE DON'T LITTER WHILE THERE!!! Its a place of nature, not a wastebasket.Thats why I didn't even really want to post directions, too many people still try to vandalize whats left of the place. I mean come on, it crumbles on its own, don't destruct whats still there. So I may not leave directions posted up, I hope people that ask for directions, are just curios about the site, and just visit . Thanks and your welcome. ~~Rachel May
