The Tasmanian Writers’ Centre, through the support of the Hobart City Council,

is pleased to announce the 2001 Hobart City Writers’ Residencies.



In 2001 the Residencies will support one international writer plus one published Australian writer residing in any Australian state or territory outside Tasmania.



This program provides each of the successful applicants with a 3-week residency at the Tasmanian Writers’ Centre’s, writers’ cottage, located at 1 Kelly Street, Battery Point in HOBART, TASMANIA.

Each successful applicant will be required to demonstrate success as a published writer and will need to articulate the content of a writing project on which he/she will be working during her/his residency in Hobart.



The successful applicant will be provided with:

economy return airfare from his/her home port to Hobart; 
3 weeks’ accommodation at the Kelly Street writers’ cottage, Battery Point, Hobart; 
a stipend of $AUD440 as a contribution towards general living expenses during the residency; 
a fee of $AUD760 for conducting two full-day writing workshops during the residency.


The successful applicant will be required to:

acknowledge the support of the Tasmanian Writers’ Centre and the Hobart City Council in any publication arising from work undertaken or completed, in full or in part, during the successful applicant’s residency in Hobart; 
make him or herself available on at least one occasion, if required, at an event to be specified by the Hobart City Council; 
and, as a condition of accepting the Hobart City Writer-in-Residence, conduct two writing workshops, one in Hobart and a second in a location, yet to be determined, elsewhere in Tasmania.
