Natalie Maines

Natalie Maines was born on October 14, 1974, in Lubbock, Texas. She made her singing debut at age three, in a Baskin Robins. She always knew she would be a star, and she often argued with teachers, telling them she didn't need to know math and science; she was going to be a star. Natalie joined the Dixie Chicks in 1995, after the two other founding members, Laura Lynch and Robin Macy, had left. Once Natalie joined, the band changed directions and headed in a more mainstream direction, while still maintaining integrity and keeping traditional country instrumentation. Natalie's strong, up-front vocals give the Chicks their unique, brash sound, yet she is a versatile singer and can go from bluesy and broken-down to in-your-face and back with the drop of a hat. Natalie brought her rock influences, such as Bonnie Raitt and James Taylor, to the group, while Emily and Martie added their own folk, country, and bluegrass influences.
