Welcome to the future website for the newly-formed Grey Bruce Owen Sound Cattlemen Football Club expansion franchise to qualify for entry into the Northern Football Conference, the Central Division for the Canadian Major Football League, formerly the Canadian Senior Football League and get ready for its inaugural season of competition within. The Senior Circuit runs from the start of its regular season in early June to late October at post season end while playing an eight game regular season schedule with the top seven teams making the playoffs. The thought was brought up by several groups in Owen Sound and surrounding Grey-Bruce district during the Winter of 2003, with many looking into the idea of such a local team towards joining that provincial league to play the national sport, until it was decided that a website for those interested should be created during the Summer of 2004. So, here we are, for those football fanatics from the City of Owen Sound and the Grey and Bruce Counties outside who want to help out in bringing home a NFC and CMFL football franchise to go for the Summer of 2007, if interested, leave us a message in the forum, guestbook or by e-mail and pass along this website address on to your friends, family and fans and make this happen.
The Grey Bruce Owen Sound Cattlemen Football Club's team name will be based within the City of Owen Sound, the County of Grey and the County of Bruce or Cottage Country Centre. The City of Owen Sound, the Cultural Capital of Canada for 2004 which was named by Captain William Fitzwilliam Owen who found the small inlet of Georgian Bay and major port of the Great Lakes once named the Chicago of the North, was incorporated in 1857 with an area of 23.5 km² and has a population of 21,500, the County of Grey, which was named after George Grey, the son of Earl Grey whose title is also the namesake of the Canadian Football League championship trophy Grey Cup, was incorporated in 1852 with an area of 4,426 km² and has a population of 83,878 and the County of Bruce, which was named after the Governor General of Canada and Earl of Elgin James Bruce, was incorporated in 1867 with an area of 4,155.5 km² and has a population of 63,892. Owen Sound Grey Bruce will play out of a natural grass Victoria Park Exhibition Fairgrounds centrally located at 1400 7th Avenue East during its first season in the Scenic City, a fully Canadian field with correct 110 yards long, 65 yards wide and 55-yard line mid-field standard, press box, a running track and a grandstand that can hold 2,000 fans with changerooms, washrooms or showers at the Coliseum plus a practice field at Notre Dame.
The Grey Bruce Owen Sound Cattlemen Football Club's team colours will make their debut based on those of each high school program currently inside the Bluewater Athletic Association: the Dark Blue of West Hill S.S. Raiders and St. Mary's H.S. Mustangs, the Light Red of the Owen Sound C.V.I. Falcons, the Silver Grey of the Grey Highlands S.S. Lions and Saugeen District S.S. Royals, the Snow White of the John Diefenbaker S.S. Trojans, and can be mirrored closely on the uniforms of the CFL's Montréal Alouettes and the NFL's Buffalo Bills. The Cattlemen, whose mix of high school colours are perfectly matched, will use the Dark Blue, Light Red, Silver Grey and Snow White on their jersey, pants and helmets. The Cattlemen whose, like its name, uniforms will not be like any other football franchise within the two leagues are proud to represent all of the high school clubs from Flesherton to Hanover to Owen Sound to Port Elgin and welcome all from inside the Twin Counties.
The Grey Bruce Owen Sound Cattlemen Football Club's team warring rivals will be from Barrie to the East and Sarnia to the West, but like the Owen Sound football club, still haven't been officially given an expansion franchise. Owen Sound has decided upon the most recent upstart Cattlemen moniker, over the is more traditional Wildcats, interestingly the nickname Cattlemen was brought up as a possibility as far back as the BSE Crisis of 2003 that Summer, but was quickly dismissed in favour of Wildcats, other local favourites thought up had been the Wolverines, Patriots, Rebels, Renegades and Real Ruff Ryders by the Winter. Those go-big-or-go-home Barrie Express just lost their back-to-back bid to bring a NFC/CMFL expansion franchise back home by default, staying home while still thinking it was the fault of Barrie's Community Sports Complex out in Midhurst, but if it can house both the Barrie Baycats of the Inter-County Major Baseball League and the Ontario Varsity Football League's Huronia Stallions then avoiding a strike three scenerio in 2007 with us and Hamilton won't be so hard. The brand-new Sarnia Imperials enter the Canadian Major Football League-Northern Football Conference actually already as one traditionally Canadian football-wise, the older team has won a Grey Cup back in 1936 by defeating the Ottawa Rough Riders, but lost the 1933 Grey Cup to the Toronto Argonauts hosting it in the same Norm Perry Park the new team will use now. The actually way the Imperials in Sarnia got their nickname was from the Black Knight 414 Squadron, who bragged of fighting "with all our might", and they never looked back. Whether it is a Cattlemen vs. Express war or a Cattlemen vs. Imperials war, all eyes will be fixed on the main prize: the Georgian Bowl for those battles against the Express and the Huron Bowl for those battles against the Imperials, with the only question being who will keep each for their first years of existence.
