HILTON CMC – 16th AUGUST 2017 - IVOR JAMES

Hi – this is Sandra. I’m usually on the door at the club, but as tonight’s artist was our genial compere Ivor James, I am submitting the report. Our usual scribe, Texas Ted, dictates his observations to Ivor who then writes them up, but clearly, it would be a huge breach of protocol for Ivor to write a report on his own performance, albeit second hand!

So – here we go:-

Ivor provided us with a very good mixture of songs old and new, which kept the listeners and dancers happy. His experience showed tonight in his choice of songs and his reading of the audience’s wishes. He played most of the requests that he received. This was the occasion of the 40TH anniversary of Elvis’s passing, and in response to a request from a lady in the audience, Ivor sang “Wooden Heart” which got the club choir going nicely!  Ivor’s rendering of the Chris Norman song “Gipsy Queen” and the Merle Haggard classics “Today I Started Loving You Again” and “Somewhere Between” in the second set were particularly enjoyed by everyone.

It was very nice to see our old friend Tony Parkin, who had braved the 62 mile drive from Doncaster, and also Hilda and John Townsend, who had driven approximately the same distance from Rutland to be with us tonight. There were also several people from the Ashbourne area who are happy to drive that far to support our club, along with other members who live more locally. They are all helping to make this friendly little club a success, which we are very grateful for.

Note to the editor from Texas Ted

It was nice to welcome Sandra back to the club after a period of illness, which had laid her low. We also would like to acknowledge the able assistance of Sheila who takes charge of the raffle tickets, and especially tonight, our good friend John Broom who was “guesting” from the nearby Brewer’s Saloon in Burton-on-Trent to act as our compere for the evening. It’s nice to see such inter – club cooperation. Thanks John!
