MIDDY

(By Texas Ted)

When our compere, Ivor James, introduced tonight’s artist, he promised the audience an evening of pure Country Music, and that is exactly what Middy delivered. Starting with Gene Watson’s classic “Paper Rosie” he worked steadily through his two sets featuring songs by many of his own favourite artists, including, of course, Gene Watson, Waylon Jennings, Vern Gosdin, Buck Owens, Hank Williams and of course one of Middy’s own friends, Raymond Froggatt.

It’s an old cliché that the artist kept both the dancers and the listeners happy, but Middy really did. His fine baritone voice mixed with his unique guitar style (on his new Fender Telecaster!) and very high quality backing tracks ensured a very good night for all concerned.

It was also nice to see Middy’s wife Elaine. She has been very ill recently, but has bounced back to her role of roadie and chauffeur!

This little club continues to thrive at The Hilton House Hotel, which provides a very fine venue and excellent choice of beers and food.

See our entries in the Gig GuIde for who is appearing here at our monthly gatherings. Next up is Carolann B on the 25th October. We start at 8 – don’t be late!
