The first Mevu stamps were issued in 1970. The stamps of the first few years are very elusive and seldom seen today, so here is a list of these "classics":

Above: The first stamps of Mevu: the 1970 First Definitive set.
Each is imperf and inscribed "Government Post Mevu".
The 25 tanos was issued on 31st October 1970, and the 2 reis on 28th November 1970.
Above: The first stamps ran out quickly, so these three stamps were issued. They are known as the 1970 Emergency set.
Each is imperf . Right: The First Definitive 50 tanos was surcharged 10 reis by typewriter for Winter Courier mail.

Above left: The 1971 Star Definitive, overprinted by the new regime in 1972 to commemorate the adoption of a new constitution.

Above: Various stamps were overprinted in 1973 to mark the proclamation of the National State of Mevu. The third row is the high value fiscal stamps overprinted. The new regime changed the name of the capital, previously Mevu Town, to Shackleton.

Above: Following an uprising, the National State was overthrown in 1973, and the new regime proclaimed the Democratic People's Co-operative Republic of Mevu. The violet stamp at the left showing the flag was issued on the 16th July 1973. Later definitives the same year included the 6 tanos showing a map of the country, and the 2 tanos showing the new President, Lemmath Babi.
Above: After the National State was overthrown in 1973, the new regime changed the name of the capital, previously Shackleton, to Amundsen Harbour. They then requested Occussi-Ambeno to open temporary Post offices in the country to help with the reconstruction. So special stamps were overprinted and supplied to Amundsen Harbour, Char, and Waikoa Island. Here is the Amundsen Harbour overprinted set. Note the two different perfs of the 6t, and the inverted overprint on the 3t.

celebrating the first anniversary of the revolution in 1974.
Above right: The black on pink stamp shows the new President, Liese Keller (wife of her predecessor).
This stamp commemorates her installation in April 1974.
Above: The dreadful mushroom cloud of death is shown on this set
promoting the Anti-Nuclear Campaign in 1976.
