Punky and the Pea -A Fractured Fairy Tale based on The Princess and the Pea by Hans Christian Andersen

Once upon a time in a land far away in a big castle, there lived a little prince who was very lonely. He wanted someone to play with.

But his Momma, the Queen, said he could only play with a real princess.

So the call went out all over the land for real princesses to come and play with the prince. The first night, the first princess came and spent the night.

The Queen put her in a room that had 20 feather beds piled up high. Underneath all the feather beds was a teeny-weeny little pea. This was to test for delicacy - (everybody knows REAL princesses are VERY delicate). So the first princess spent the night, then got up the next morning and the Queen asked her how she slept. "Oh, just wonderful" she replied. "Get out of here - you're not a real princess" said the prince. So the second princess came and spent the night. Next morning, same question. "Marvelous" replied the princess. "Get out of here - you're not a real princess" said the prince.

Then the Punky princess came and spent the night.

The next morning when the Queen asked her how she slept, she replied"I am never spending the night again here - ever!!! There must have been rocks in that bed - why, I'm black and blue and sore all over!!" The prince jumped up and down with joy. "Yippee - you're a real princess" "Silly boy" said Punky..."Only Punkys are real princesses - everybody knows that" Then the prince asked "Will you stay and play with me?"

"Of course I will" said Punky
"Give me the keys to the Mercedes."

And they lived happily ever after.
