LE GOUT DU TERROIR PAUL SURTEL MUSEUM Based on
the first floor of a XIXth century dated building, the museum is accessible
by an old rock stairway, outside the Mansion of Reuilly, near the vineyard of
seigniors. Twenty
six paintings, property of the SURTEL Family, are exposed between pictures
and vineyard equipment. The
atmosphere turns to be simple, hearty, like Paul Surtel would have liked it
to be. During
his life, Paul SURTEL experienced and (maybe?) doubted of his talent of
painter and sculptor. The answer lies in the very often support of "his
nice master" Fernand MAILLAUD, friend of Paul 's father. He knew Paul in
his early years, in le Moulin de la Cour, where the parents worked as millers "You
are Paul SURTEL, it's something, believe me…If you don't know it… " 1947, Fernand MAILLAUD Paul
SURTEL was a member of the Provençal school and may be ranked among the
artists of the end of the impressionism. He wrote to his friends : "My
best paints have been carried under the knife of the mistral and the biting
of the frost ". The
museum displays the different "artistic ways of the painter"
:
"I
love so much the human face!" He wrote
: "I have a violent, passionate, quick-tempered nature, suffering
death and damnation in front of injustice. But deep in my heart, I am ashamed
of that ". He
paints till the age of 91. "I
paint and everyday, I come back amazed from my walkings ". _______________________________________________________________ Free entrance - opened from 10 to12 and from
