LE GOUT DU TERROIR

A village in the heart

of Berry

Reuilly is located near a river called l'Arnon, an affluent of the Cher river since the Bronze era.

It was told that King Dagobert gave Reuilly  to the Royal Abbey of St-Denis in 638. From that time to the French Revolution, a religious seigniory ruled the city.

A crypt dating back from the Carolingian period and a XIth century primitive roman style church remind us the religious activity.

Located at 25 km from Bourges, Reuilly experienced long and devastatating war periods, with Normen in 905 and Englis during the 100-year war. But the quality of its vineyard has always given a great tenacity to its inhabitants.

The monks of the abbey, the Templar based at the Commanding Place of L'Ormeteau and the great lords of the Castle of La Ferté, built during the XVIth century by François MANSARD, prove the wealth from the past.

Located right in the middle of the Champagne Berrichonne, a vast cereal plain, the inhabitant of Berry never gave up. Like in every French villages, he discovered some famous names among his history :

  • Yves du Manoir, captain of the French rugby team, deceased in his plane on 01/02/1928;
  • Paul Surtel, Born in Reuilly in 1893, a very resilient painter ;
  • Marius Jacob, anarchist of the XXth century who inspired the character of Arsene Lupin and dead in 1954.

The History of Reuilly deserves more details than few lines. It is very wealthy. Nowadays it enables to the inhabitants to reach the future with a drink of wine and a piece ofgastronomic specialities.
