LE GOUT DU TERROIR Marius Jacob 1879-1954 Marius Jacob was born in
Marseille on 09/29/1879. His family, coming from Alsace settled in the Midi
of France. His Father was a navigator and married Marie BERTHON, daughter of
Provence. Soon, at eleven, Alexandre Jacob got his basic scholl leaving
qualification.
Alexandre Jacob lived his
adventures by imagination. He often read Jules Verne. On 02/22/1890, he sailed
as ship boy on the Thibet. He discovered Occidental Africa with ports of call
in Oran, Libreville, Cotonou … At twelve, in the
"Ville de la Ciotat", he discovered Djibouti, Seychelles,
Melbourne, experienced his first wreck at Sydney and come back to France. Victim of strong fevers,
he must stay at ground. At 16, his
period of sailor had taken an end.
During his illness,
Alexandre devoured an awesome number of books. An exerpt of Victor Hugo 's
"Ninety three" impressed his thougts. "First of all,
suppress the parasitism. The parasitism of the priest, the parasitism of the
judge, the parasitism of the soldier…" Because of his friendship
with young people, he became little by little an anarchist, used explosives,
was arrested and sentenced to six months of jail. Between normal society
and anarchism, he chose his duty. He began a life of robber, operated in all
the country, organised a band "The workers of the night". He was
arrested on 04/22/1923 in Abbeville.
The Trial of Amiens began
on 03/03/1905. It revealed Alexandre Marius Jacob's personality. He mocked at
the judges, the witnesses and took all the responsibilities for his group's
actions. On 03/22/1905, he iwas
sentenced to hard labour for life and on 07/29/1905, to 20 years of hard
labor by the court of Orleans. In january 1906, he is
landed in Guyana. During 19 years, at Devil Island, he suffered the dungeon,
tried to escape, and held in permanence a conflict with the penal
administration. Following a strong press
campaign against penal colony, he was fred on 12/30/1928..
Free, He is registered in
the Chamber of Commerce of Seine as staill holder. He went all over makets,
the trade fair of "Région Centre" and bought in 1939 a house in
Reuilly. "The country where nothing ever happen". He married in 1939 but
his wife died in 1950.. On 08/28/1954, Marius and
his dog Negro that "never lie" left willingly that world. "So young, the virus of justice has been
inoculated to me so that costs me some annoyances ". |
