~A Word From The Prez~

I'd like to welcome all the new members and give a big hey to all those old
members still with us!  Summer is officially here!  Hope you all have a great
summer and get a chance to see the Wilkinson's sometime. As for me I'll be
going to the Sidney, Ohio show July 25th (Minnesota's only show is 7-8 hours
away from me so I might not be able to make that, although I have gone that
far before).  I hope to see a bunch of you Word members there (I'll be
looking for your laminates).  If you're going and would like to meet up just
email me... I'd love to meet up with some fans :0)  (I should be wearing a
Word laminate, if you'd like to get one to wear to that show or any of the
others email me!)  I just got to hear clips from the 3 songs off of Shine
that I haven't heard in concert, and they're great!  That's about it for now.
Talk to you all next month (probably mid July since we're leaving for Ohio the 22nd).
 Tracey

~The Word News~

Just a reminder to you all (and for all new members).  We are making Word
laminates (they look like backstage passes, but you can't use them to get
anywhere...they're just for fun) for all members that want them. Get yours
today in time for the summer concerts!  Wear them to the showand show your
Wilkinson and Word pride.  The Wilkinson's do know about this newsletter, I
got permission from DT (the roadmanager) to make these.  A picture of the
laminates is included in this newsletter so you all can see what they'll look
like.  Tracey will laminate them and add string.  She's already received some
orders, but we are accepting more.
Email jecklund@black-hole.com if interested.

Send a self addressed stamped envelope (and $1 per laminate to cover the
cost of the laminating machine and supplies) to:

~Latest Wilkinson News~

Shine will not be released in the US.  It will be released in Canada
officially on July 10th and Australia already has it.  The Wilkinson's are
going to be working on a new album for the US, out next yearsometime.
The reason for this is the label switch.  The Wilkinson's are no longer with
Giant (as you probably know) or Warner Brothers (who they were briefly with).
There is talk of them signing with RCA, but it isn't official yet.  The best of luck to them.
Want to buy Shine online?  Here's a Canadian store that currently has it in
stock.  With shipping it'll cost about $20 US funds (not bad).  I've seen it
other places, but this one sounds like the best deal...fast, reliable and
cheap plus it's actually in Canada so we know they should have the CD.

Want to hear the new songs but haven't gotten to a show yet?  Go here to hear
clips from all 11 Shine songs.

The Wilkinsons are expecting to get another chocolate lab, this time a
female.

~Reviews~
November 20th, 2000 by Angel
Their aunt did indead end up staying in touch with me in fact she invited me down last
Novemeber to Belleville to go to a Wilkinsons concert with her and the rest of the family
So i packed my bags and headed there all by myself. When I got there they picked me up at
greyhound lol. We went back to their place and she showed me pics of amanda and tyler
when they were little and home videos too. One of the home videos showed tyler sitting
in the excat place where i was sitting on the couch!1 I thought that was pretty neat.
She even gave me a tape of tyler and amanda singing when they were about 3 and 5 years
old its sooo cute. At the concert we and the rest of the family got their about 2 hours
b 4 the show and hung out with them in the family room. I got to go on the tour bus and
everything. i met the whole family and I had my very own VIP pass. I sat with Kiyia for
a little while while they where doing sound checks and stuff it was alot of fun and even
today we still keep in touch and the next time she is in town she may pop in and meet my
mom :0) well thats my wilkinsons experience :) ps Tyler remebered me for the last concert
and took my hand     and told me not to be nervous he didnt bite. lol love ya Angel
Way cool Angel!

~Good Ole Articles~

If you have an article you'd like to share with us email jecklund@black-hole.com

"There are two ingredients that will keep country alive. That' s great young talent and great family talent, and we have both here," said Roy Clark, host of the Grand Ole Opry as he introduced The Wilkinsons for their official Opry debut.  The most famous mom on Mother's Day in Grande Prairie this year will be Mom Wilkinson. Although not a performer in the family band, you can count on something special from the band in her honour, which includes father Steve and children Tyler, 17 and Amanda, 19, when the group plays at the Crystal Centre on May 13. "My mom is going to be with us," says Amanda in a phone interview from her her Nashville home. "I'm sure it will be real special." Special is a word that is synonymous with The Wilkinsons. Less than four years ago the family was scruffing around Trenton, Ontario, with father Steve taking the odd construction job. The family was no stranger at the local food bank. What kept them going was the music, whether it was Steve's song writing or just sitting around the kitchen table practicing their harmonies. The family finally decided it was time to try and grab the brass ring. Off they headed to Nashville, a trip that usually ends in broken hearts and shattered dreams for the thousands of hopefuls who make the trek. But a true Cinderella story was unfolding. Two weeks after arriving in Music City they were "discovered"at a showcase, and a record deal soon followed, and the awards starting filling the mantelpiece. This instant success would no doubt go to many people's heads, but the Wilkinsons are grounded, and family always comes first. "We surround ourselves with people that care about us as people," says Amanda. "We take our family and friends with us on the road, people who remind you about who you are as a person."   The Wilkinsons maintain a rigorous touring schedule, and are extremely popular on the American County Fair Circuit, and at music festivals. "People that start to think of this as a job aren't doing it," says Amanda. "Sometimes it gets tiring, but to be able to make music and make a living doing what we love is incredible." The Wilkinsons may have captured Nashville with their talent and wholesome family values, but don't think that they have abandoned their home country. "We live here because this is where the business is," explains Amanda. "It is a big culture shock. But our roots are in Canada. I love it. We spend a lot of time going back and forth." Last fall the Willkinsons did an extensive tour of eastern Canada, this spring it is time for the western part of the nation. "I love the western part of the country. You get a different energy from the people there," says Amanda.  Wilkinson fans will also get to hear plenty of new material at the Grande Prairie concert. The Wilkinsons will release a new CD, "Shine," on June  22.  It is a tribute to The Wilkinsons that the record company hired famed songwriter/producer Mac MacAnally to produce "Shine," their third album.  MacAnally's credits include writing songs for Steve Wariner, Jimmy Buffet and Alabama, and has produced the likes of Ricky Skaggs, Sawyer Brown and Marty Stuart. Amanda is justifiably excited about the new release. "It's like the focus has been brought back," she says. "Mac was a change of pace. He's very influential and incredible. He has a different perspective. He looks at what you do as a group and doesn't try to change you."  Amanda sings the lead vocals on nine of the tracks, with brother Tyler handling the other two. The Wilkinsons are about more than music they're about a family tradition that reaches back to the Carter Family to the White to the Kendalls to the Judds. "Because we're a family, we're held up to a different light," notes Amanda. "People come up and say how good it is to see a family working together. We can be a positive influence. That's one reason I'm careful how I dress. I don't want my father to blush over what I wear." Yes, this Mother's Day in Grande Prairie Mom Wilkinson (Chris) has a lot to celebrate and be proud of, the music and the family together.

Last months question:

If the Wilkinsons could do a cover for their next albumn of your choice what would if be and why??

Your Answers...

"I would like to hear Steve do Tim McGraw's "Dont Take The Girl". That is one of my fav. songs.  Then for Amanda I would love to hear her sing Martina's McBride's "Independence Day".  Then on to Tyler. I think this is hard to think of a song that Tyler would sound good singing. Here is a couple songs I am thinking. umm. mabe Billy Gilman's "She's My Girl"? or mabe Neal McCoy's "Beatin' It In"? or even Joe Diffie's "John Deere Green"? - Ryan
Oooh yeah Steve would be great singing DTTG!

Good choices Ryan :0)

"Hmmm...let me think.  How about "Almost Doesn't Count" by Mark Wills for Steve (I think he'd sound great singing that).  For Amanda "When I Think About Angels" by Jamie O'Neal (she'd sound awesome with that!) And Tyler...some Bryan White song...*thinks* How about "Someone Elses Star"?  I think he'd sound great on that one plus he likes Bryan White so it's all good).

"I think Amanda would do really good on "Who I Am" (Jessica Andrews)" - Elizabeth

"Roll to Me (Tyler singing lead) by Del Amitri" - Michelle

"I think hearing them do Who I Am (Jessica Andrews) would be good.  It just sounds like them."- Kyurra

Uhh...hmmm..i think i would like to see Steve sing "Heaven" by Bryan Adams...for Amanda...hmm..it mite be fun to see her sing "cant fight the moonlight" by Leanne Rhymes (cant spell sorry!!) and for Ty..i think it would be fun for him to sing ANY song by Great Big Sea...now how cool would that be???? -Vanessa
