After a long-lasting examination of Slovenian history writers (Schonleben, Baucer, Linhart, Jesenko, Mal, Berlot, Rebec, Grafenauer, etc.) who mostly based their work on ancient history authors (Appianus, Strabo, Plinius, Livius), I finally concluded that Anton Tomaž Linhart wrote the most realistic description of the town of Metulum in his book Poskus zgodovine Kranjske in ostalih dežel južnih Slovanov Avstrije in the year 1788. According to Linhart's map from 1788, and after much work and investigations in nature, at last I discovered the location of Metulum in 1999.
During five years of investigations into where the location of Metulum should be, I walked most of Notranjska, from Krim to Kolpa, from Vrhnika to Ilirska Bistrica and from Babno polje to Stari kot. First, I discovered the location of Terpon town and the Roman stronghold of Magnus Vicus, which are truly there where Linhart marked them on his map. I found that the town of Metulum was located east from Cerkniško jezero. Nearby runs a river which sinks. When I crossed the area within 20 km, I found out that river's name was Bloščica and the town of Metulum was placed above the settlement of Žimarce. The hill is called Planine (811 m).
