Phantom of the Opera

Hello! this is a change of pace for most CATS websites but this is a page dedicated to Phantom of the Opera!!! It all begins with a little girl named Christene Daae, who's father lay dying and mother had already passed on, he tells her that after he died he would send the Angel of Music to her. Her best friend Ruaol played and comforted her through this time. Finnaly when the little girl was seven, her father died and she was taken by one of her father's dearest friends, Madame Giry. Madame Giry worked ar the Paris opera house(Opera Populaire)as the balley directer where she was taken to live and train to be a balurina, she had a daughter of her own named Meg Giry. Together the girls were best friends, then every night at the Opera house when Christene would go and light a candle for her father. A voice which called her by name and taught her how to sing, she was convinced that this was the Angel her father spoke of. But who was this angel really? His name was Eric Destler, you see when Madame Giry was a little younger when she herself was training to be a balurina, a circus came to town, a circus of gypsies. One of the attractions was called The Devil's Child, of course he was not the devil's child he was Eric he had a deformity on his face. And of course back then if you had any kind of deformed bodypart you were considered a demon. Now he was feared, hated, laughed at and beaten because of it. Everyone treated him the same except for Madame Giry, she showed simpathy towards him. After the so called "show" had ended, everyone started to leave and when everyone had left Eric got his chance he took the rope which was on the floor of his cage and wrapped it around the neck of the man who beat him(and who had the keys). Madame Giry nad stayed though, and she saw him kill him, but unlike the other people who wittnessed it she understood why. There was a cry of Murderer! and she grabbed Eric's hand and pulled him to the underground part of the Opera house. There he lived and was hid from the world and it's crueltys. Years passed and the old owner of the Opera house was retiring, now two men owned it and their patron was..Ruaol! Whe she saw him her heart jumped, but she was convinced that over the nine years that had passed he wouldn't recognize her. Eric(who was now known as the Opera ghost or the Phantom of the Opera) did not like him. Later that night Ruaol went to see the opera they were performing, what he didn't know was that Christine was staring in the opera. When he saw her he was so happy, after the performance he went to go see her. They talked about what had ahppened over the time they had been seperated, but when she told him about the Angel he laughed for he did not believe in such an angel. Agter he had left the angel spoke to her again but this time he showed himself. He had a mask over half his face to hide his deformity. She followed him into the under ground part of the Opera house. She was declared missing when no one could find her the next morning. The next day mysterious notes started to appear, saying that Christine would perform or else. When Christine did return the owners said that she would not sing because they would note be pushed around by some imaginary ghost. So during the performence that night he had not interrupted them but then he spoke and sent the massive chandeler come crashing down. Christine fled to the top of the building and Ruaol followed. He tried to convince her that the Phantom did not exist. Lets just say this scene ends up with them kissing(it's a little hard to explain). Eric was crushed, because he loved her more than life itself. Three months passed and he did not show up, the Opera house was having a Masquerade Ball. Ruaol and Christine were now engaged to be married. Everyone was having a good time until the Phantom appeared, he threw a book down on the ground which was labled Daun Juan Triumphant, he had written an opera. By now the chandelier had been replaced and the day came that they were to do the Phantom's opera. Christine had been forced to by the Phantom to be the girl who would kiss him in the opera. She was fritened that she might lose her life, but Ruaol told her everything would be all right. During the opera police guarded every door and they were armed so when this was over they would kill him. Finnaly it came time for Christine to kiss him, but she took off his mask revealing the true horror of his face. Everyone screamed, everyone but Christine. He then took pulled a lever which sent them going down a trap door into the underground part. He was now angry at her but he still loved her so he made her put on the dress that he had made for her, he was going to force her to marry him. Then Ruaol appeared and just like Eric had done so many years ago he put a rope around his throat and started to choke him. He told Christene that the only way to save him was to love him and marry him. She knew what she had to do, she went up and kissed him warm and hard. But instead of being happy Eric started to cry. He told them to leave and to never to speak of what they had seen. And so they did and were married and they had children and did as he said and never told about the experiance they had. Know one knew what happened to Eric. Many years later Christine died and at her grave was a rose and the wedding ring that he was going to marry her with. and that is where the story ends and the legend begins... This was a story written a long time ago by french man by the name of Gaston Leroux(Original name Le Fantome de l'Opera), it has been done in so many versions(and made fun of so many times). My two favorites are the Lon Chaney(Monster Movie superstar) silent movie version which was the first one. And my second version was the (Musical version) 2004 MOVIE!! Staring Emmy Rossum(Day after Tomorrow) as Christene, Patrick Wilson as Ruaol, and my favorite GERARD BUTLER as Phantom! The musical was created by Andrew Lloyd Webber and was presented in London in the 1980's. It stared Michael Crawford as the Phantom and Sarah Briteman as Christine. It has beautiful music and thrilling scenes, the one scene that made it so famous was when the chandelier crashes. It comes over the audience, well atleast the first rows and thats why my friends that when you go and sit in those seats you have to sign papers saying SIT AT YOUR OWN RISK! On the it premeired the critics were sitting in the front row, so they were all praying that it would not fall down on them. And until it ends and something else beats it, it is the longest running Broadway show to this day. now let me end this the way the Phantom would... I remain gentlemen your obedient servant, O.G.
