CATS, what is it? What did it come from? Who made it? WELL MY FRIENDS THIS WHERE WE"LL TELL YOU! Let's start from the begining(It's a very good place to start). Early 1900's... T.S.Elliot already known for writing poems, starts writing poems about cats for his grandchildren. He also starts calling himself Old Possum, later he dies at a good old age(he lived from 1888-1965). Before he dies his poems he wrote for his grandchildren are published and become best seller, accompanied by the cute black and white art to show what the cats looked like. Years later Andrew Lloyd Webber a young and quite famous composer, made sucsessful by his Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and by Jesus Christ Superstar found the book and decided to make a musical of it. He also found a few more of Elliot's writings. He went to Elliot's widow to ask for permission to make a musical with and from his work. While she was talking to him she said, "I don't won't them turned into pussy cats, that's why Tom(T.S. Elliot)turned down Disney you know, because he didn't want them turned into pussy cats." "Well," he said,"I was actually thinking something more of a Hot Gothic feel," "Yes! Yes!" she said "I think that Tom would have liked that!" then the real journey began. After that he spent months working on music for the musical. After that he went to Trever Nunn, to adapt words from the poems to these two songs Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats and Memory. After the music part of it was done he had to get Choreogerphy(Dance). So he got one of the best in all of England and then all they needed to get was... A CATS CAST!!! So they searched evrywhere and found people like Elaine Paige, to play the Old and abused cat Grizabella(who on the original Broadway showing is played by the already famous Betty Buckley) , and Ken Page to play the part of the old leader of the tribe Old Deuteronomy. Finnaly it was shown in London, for the past few weeks people like they do now, were confused about what it was about. When it showed it took it's critics by surprise because there never been a show that was a dance show, a musical and about cats before, but even though it's bumpy start CATS made it world wide being the longest Broadway show until it ended in 2001(It was then beaten by Phantom of the Opera another one of his plays) it had it's FINAL show in the Wintergreen gardens theatre. But the musical which had been given many awards like BEST MUSICAL, BEST SONG FROM A MUSICAL(Memory), would forever be remembered because of it's 1998 Movie showing of the musical. One of the stars in the movie was Jacob Brent who played Mr. Mistoffolees(a magical cat who plays a key role in the story of the play) made an apperance on OPRAH(Oprah Winphrey) the famous talk show.
