Those Damn Helicopters!

FRD and their views on history

By SentryBuddyBot

BBS here, reporting in again, and this time I got a pretty great story. It all started when I tried Siberia on Hard (That's right, TS2 Hard, as in, actually pretty damn difficult.) I made it all the way to the end, when the helicopter killed me just barely. So picking up from where my last article left off, I decided I'd go and figure out what kind of helicopter this was that blew the Russian stuffing out of me. Well that was a pretty easy task, being that I'm already a buff on Russian aviation. It’s undoubtedly a Mi-24 Hind attack helicopter.

This brought me around to Future Perfect, which proved to be a bit more difficult. I automatically assumed it was an AH-64 Apache, but there are reasons it couldn’t be. The Apache is an American made helicopter, not Russian, and it's too new to have been around in the 60's. FRD hit the hammer on the nail historically here. However I didn't search the web on this one since they tell you what kind of chopper it is IN THE GAME. That is, if you look for it. However you have to look around pretty hard, as it isn't even in the level that the helicopters are in. It is in the level before. In the same room that Khallos printed off his money in, there's a poster on the wall. It has a picture similar to this with KA-50 Hokum printed above it.

Ladies and gentlemen, the first helicopter designed specifically to blow things up was the Soviet built Ka-50. (Oh, and my apologies for anyone who can't read what language that is. I can't either.) That's it for the helicopters, so those of you who only read this for those can ditch.

You thought that was it though? Now I've gone on to find exactly HOW smart FRD is with history - this means the blunders too. I have to credit them on many things, notice that the Chicago level took place in 1932, not during the "Roaring 20's", because in fact, the Roaring 20's went well into the 30's. In fact, upon doing some research, the famous Tommy Gun wasn’t even released until 1928. That's it for praising them, now for the bashing! As mentioned in a previous article, The Colonel, that dusty old timer from TS2's Wild West, is said to be an ex-Confederate army officer. He's 5 years too early since the Civil War hasn't started yet. Sorry Colonel, but your our first historical FAILURE of the day. Next up - TSFP 1924 Scotland the Brave. Captain Ash, you're our next screw up. You put on a great act during FP actually, good accent and everything. You were a Captain during WWI and had fun doing it. However, 4 years earlier in TS2 you were enjoying your old age reminiscing on your young military career while going on adventures in the Mexican jungle. Of course, you met Jungle Queen these four years earlier, and picked her up again in FP. Good job there, I'm just wondering how you got so old and then so young again. That sure is something special. Well I could go on and rant about the Machine Wars having completely different back stories in both games, but that'd bore you all. Time to split!
