Covering of the Wings
Installing rivets to hold the fabric to the ribs on the bottom side of the wing. The fabric gets reinforced with thick polyester tape so that
the rivets will not pull through. These are large head aluminum rivets. The circles are plastic reinforcements for inspection hole covers.
This is the bottom side of the right wing panel. The rivets still have to be pulled and more reinforcing tape added over the top of the
rivet heads.
Both wings have been covered! I couldn't resist sitting them outside together for a photo op. It has taken much longer to cover the wings than
it took to build the structure. Actually, each wing still needs a couple of hours of work with an iron to smooth out a few wrinkles that you can't
see in these photos.
This is a shot of the center of the wings where they join to the fuselage. The black circle is a reinforced patch where an inspection access
cover will go after painting is complete.
The right wing tip.
The wings are complete and it's time to start on the tail surfaces and fuselage. They'll take a couple of weeks. Then it's time to start painting.
That's when the real fun begins.
