Electric Ultimate Biplane

Okay. This is not the type of R/C plane I would normally build. It's not fast, and it's not the most aesthetically pleasing to look at. But, it is a blast to fly. It has a 30" wingspan and weighs only 12.5 ounces. It's electric powered. The prop/motor combination puts out 24 ounces of thrust. This means you can launch it by holding it pointed straight up and letting it go with the motor a little more than half throttle. It has excellent aerobatic capability. It's scratch built from plans out of "Depron" foam (polyurethane foam). The plans for this model and many other great electrics are available from foamyfactory.com.

I actually fly this in the street in front of my duplex. It's whisper quiet, so the neighbors don't even know it's flying.

A slightly different angle.

The motor, speed controller, battery, and receiver are all visible on the right side of the plane. This is what's called a "profile" model, so there is no room to hide the radio gear. I did double the thickness of the foam at the front to help hide some of the wires.

A carbon fiber rod embedded into the bottom of the lower wings serves as the wing reinforcement spar. The fuselage has one of these as well. The landing gear wire plugs into a receptacle and is easily removable for landings on grass.

The side view. Notice the wings have no airfoil. It still flies great. Who needs airfoil when you have a 2:1 power to weight ratio?
