I.
Who are we? A. Ricky Ryan (and family): K.W.S. Utility Locating is an insured locating service of private underground utilities. II. What will we do? A. Private Underground Locates for homeowners, business owners, utility owners, and contractors. Private underground utilities are the service lines past the point of which the facility owners claim responsibility. Included are lines such as water, electric, and natural gas lines past the meter. Also included are propane, cable TV/satellite, phones lines, septic lines, irrigation and/or any other utility lines that will not be or can not be located by the facility owner. Valuable time and expensive labor cost can be saved knowing exactly where to take caution when digging. B. Dig Site Evaluations to help clarify the information that will be required by IUPPS, making the call to IUPPS easier and locate descriptions clearer. Also, K.W.S. Utility Locating will define the dig site using white paints and flags. Thus insuring quicker and more accurate locates by the locators contracted by facility owners. C. Some of our other services: Line Exposing, Residential Utility Mapping, Damage Investigating. III. When will we do it? Appointments will be made 8-5 Mon-Fri. Excluding Emeregencies. IV. Where will we do it? A. K.W.S. Utility Locating will be based out of my home in Bedford, IN. B. The intended advertising area will include the counties of Lawrence, Monroe, Orange, Jackson, Greene, Brown, Morgan, Owen, Martin, Washington, and Johnson. C. However, private underground utility locates will be provided anywhere our services are required. V. Why will we do it? A. Basically, we just want to help. As a locator, I found that several homeowners in the Lawrence County area were in need of private locate services. From the electric line going to the lamp post in the front yard to the septic line and tank in the back yard. From the electronic dog fence keeping Fido in his place to the water service line bringing him water to keep him cool on those hot summer days. None of which I could help with, due to company policies of the company I was employed by. However, all of which can be located using the right equipment and techniques. B. Anytime someone decides to dig, they run a risk of cutting a buried utility. When they are contacted, IUPPS contacts the facility owners for water, sewer, gas, electric, phone, and cable TV. The problem is the facility owners will not take responsibility for water, gas, or electric lines added on past the meters, or past the protectors on the home for phone, and of course cable TV will not take responsibility for satellite TV lines. The protection of these lines is the responsibility of the property owner. C. Making a call to IUPPS, typically, is easy enough. Sometimes though, there is confusion about addresses or locate directions that aren’t clear and sometimes both. This causes problems getting locators to the dig site and can cause inaccurate locates. It delays start times and puts the those that want to dig at risk of cutting a buried utility line. D. The services provided by K.W.S. Utility Locating will take away the risk; loss of service, fire, injury, and replacement cost (which can easily range in the hundreds, even thousands of dollars). VI. How will we do it? A.
