There is a old saying "Safety is Everyone’s business" that statement never holds so much truth as when your talking about hunting. Hunting can be a very dangerous activity, many factors can determine whether you have a safe fun time or a tragic one. Safety in hunting involves many things, and there are many things we can do as individuals to insure a safe time for everyone.

Safety starts as soon as you leave the house, it continues as you drive to the woods and continues the whole time you are hunting. Always be alert when hunting and be mindful of the other hunters in the woods. Below are a few safety issues i feel are important and although they are many more safety concerns too numerous to mention on this page.

Gun Safety

Guns indeed are dangerous but with a little common sense and following a few simple rules your next hunt can be safe and enjoyable

Always empty your gun before you transport it
Always treat a gun as it was loaded
Make sure you have a clear shot, always check your background
Never point a unloaded or loaded gun at anyone or anything you don’t intend to shoot
Never climb into your stand with your gun, use a rope to pull it up, barrel down
Wear your Hunter Orange when required

Tree Stand Safety

Every year many hunters are injured and some even die from falling from their tree stands. Tree stand safety is just as important as gun safety with the heights hunters climb to with the modern equipment we have available to us today. Below is a short check list to help you remain safe in the stand

Check your equipment reguarly,make sure all nuts and bolts are secure on your stands
Check all your straps and webbings making sure they are not worn, if they are replace them
Select a tree, whether you use a climbing or ladder stand that can support your weight and the weight of your equipment
Always use a safety harness
Always let someone know where you will be hunting and if at all possible carry a cell phone in case of emergency

Hunter Orange

Unsafe hunters often shoot anything that moves in the woods, wearing Hunter Orange insures you will stand out in the woods. Hunter Orange is unlike any color in nature it gives you the visibility you need in the woods
