Research on the property indicated that the house in question, built between 1910-20, is located in an area where the first homes of Sault Ste. Marie were starting to develop during the FH Clergue industrial boom. History will show that the entire area was farming land owned most likely by the HBC company at one time.
Between 1914-1920, The Canadian War Measures Act proclaimed unmeasurable powers to the federal government and enslaved any immigrants or residents with Eastern European backgrounds and forced them into labour camps across the country. Sault Ste. Marie was one of these labour camp locations. Following the release, these enslaved families would move to Western Canada, or they chose to remain and take up residency to work in the Steel Plant.
According to the resident, there is a documented photo of the home with the apparitions resembling "witches". My research indicates that the "witches" were quite possibly gypsies released from the Canadian War Measures Act and labour camps.
Although no photographs at that time yielded any suspicious activity, the movement through the apartment was as the resident had indicated. On four separate occasions, we saw movement that quickly disappeared as soon as we were able to focus on it. I had my handy flashlight go missing during the investigation, knowing full well that I had placed it in my carryall bag. Upon searching for the flashlight to no avail and emptying the contents of the bag, we left the residence thinking I had lost my flashlight. It mysteriously showed up in one the side pockets, one I had previously emptied while searching for it. I cannot explain that and neither could my partner.
A quick walk around the yard, we noticed that the entire area had an "off" feeling to it. The resident explained that the neighbouring home was constantly for sale and void of any tenants.
