Taekwondo

What Is Taekwondo?

Taekwondo is an Korean Martial Art which has traced it's orgins back almost 4000 years. It Is officially the oldest martial Art around today.

Taekwondo means "The Warriors way of life". Taekwondo is not just about kicking and punching it is about living your Life to the fullest, Enjoying Life and making sure those around you feel safe enough to enjoy life as well.

The mandate of a Taekwondoin (Taekwondo Practioner)  is to protect others from any unjustly dangerous situations.

Taekwondo is not about violence, it is about avoiding violence and have the confidence and beleif in yourself to achieve this. "the Greatess Warrior is not the one who has fought 1000 battles and has 1000 victories, but the one who has no battles and has no victories, for they have truely mastered the art"

Taekwondo and Me ?

Well i have been training in Martial Art since the age of 11 when i started karate in Wellington.Throughout my Martial Art career i hold belts in 6 different styles and Arts.

I started Taekwondo at age 14 at the New Plymouth Taekwondo Club. I achieved 1st Dan Blackbelt on the 4th December 1992 and started my own club in 1994. Since then i have progressed up the Ranks to a World Recongsied Master Instructor which i achieved in August 2002.

To put this achievement in prospective, more people will climb the worlds highest mountain in 1 year than New Zealanders will achieve Masters level.

I have been teaching Taekwondo since 1991 when i started helping my instructor as a seniorbelt before earning my Blackbelt and opening my own club. To this day i still run my this club called the "New Plymouth Taekwondo Club (NPTC)".

I am both nationally and internationally known and well respected for my promotion and Knowledge of the Art. To find out more about my Martial Art Career and the New Plymouth Club follow the link below to the NPTC website.

NPTC Nats Team 06 The successful 2006 National Championships Team. (No the girl in Brown is not part of the team just a supporter.

My Club had 14 Competitors entered into the 2006 National Championships. The club won 7 Gold, 4 Silver and 2 Bronze. 3 of the silvers, 1 of the bronze and 1 fighter who missed out on a medal were eliminated by other club members.

That means in 3 divisions NPTC has the best 2 fighters in the country and in 1 division we had a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place podium finish shutting out all other clubs contesting it.
