The Sea Kings lost their season opener 59-56 against rival Newport Harbor. CdM, led by Adam Freede with 18 points, earned a 27-24 halftime lead. However, they were unable to hold on to the lead in the second half. It was a loud atmosphere and a great high school basketball game. The Sailors have dominated the Sea Kings in recent years, but this year CdM came out with pride. 6 foot 8 center Jamie Diefenbach led the Sailors with 16 points and their second victory to open the 2003-2004 season.
