LAKEITH RAQIB AMIR-SHARIF
On Probation
Sharif has been on probation for two years for a minor offense. He had followed the rules and was working hard, attending college classes, and taking care of his family. One day he found that was not enough.
Sharif's current crisis began with a letter from his probation officer wherein the PO's staff made a typo. The date the PO expected him was not the date Sharif was told to show up in the letter, yet he was accused of violating probation, arrested and sent to the county jail.FORM LETTER FROM

You failed to report to your probation officer as scheduled. Please report to the probation officer on: 10/12/05 at 4:00 PM in order to avoid further action by the court.
Probation Officer: MS. MCDANIEL
This was the only letter Sharif received on this issue. If you will note, the letter clearly states he needs to report on October 12, 2005, which has not arrived yet. This was probably a typo, but mistakes made by the office of Ms. McDaniel should not be fostered on Mr. Sharif.
However, despite the whole thing being an injustice, upon demand of the probation office, Sharif was arrested on February 10, 2005 and taken to the Dallas County Jail. This was the beginning of his trip through Dallas County justice which landed him in the State Mental HospitalThere's been so many mistakes that cost Sharif and his family and friends time, effort and money. INS tried to say he was not an American Citizen, his lawyer betrayed him, the jail messed up his medication, the jailer stabbed him in the arm with his keys, the doctor stated he was incompetent, and a judge who had never seen him ordered him transferred to a state mental facility. All because the probation office made a typo. I imagine I'd be a bit upset too.
This page is built by those who care about Sharif in an attempt to help him find justice in a system that just doesn't care.
