Love's in the air . . .

Neither Jean West nor her friend Claire Middleton has had a date in ages. So when they each recieve a passionate love letter, they're thrilled. But when the girls compare letters, they discover something horrible: the letters are from the exact same guy - Scott Trost!
Jean and Claire confront the handsome, arrogant Scott. Instead of apologizing, he suggests a dating contest with him as the grand prize. Elizabeth Wakefield is stunned when Jean and Claire agree to the outrageous plan; her twin sister, Jessica, sees nothing wrong with a little romantic compitition. But what neither Elizabeth nor Jessica know is that their friends are secretly plotting to use the contest for revenge. Everything goes as planned, until the unthinkable happens. It looks as if Jean is falling in love with the enemy!

"Well," Claire said, "are you coming with me or not?"
"Where?" Jean asked, still stunned.
"To give Mr. Scott 'God's Gift to Women' Trost a piece of our minds."
Jean was about to say that of course she'd go with Claire when something occured to her. They could go to Scott's house, yell at him, and then go home as though nothing had happened. But in school on Monday, Scott would tell his version of the story to all his friends. Everyone would be laughing at them, not him. The scene was so vivid in her mind in Jean's mind that she could almost hear the entire football team laughing their heads off. Jean West thought Scott Trost really liked her. What a riot! "Wait a minute, Claire," Jean said. "I've got a better idea."
"What could be better than punching him in the nose?" Claire asked.
"Really getting even," Jean explained. "Showing him that three can play at this game."
Claire looked interested. "And how would we do that?"
"We go along with his little cherade and see how far he's planning to take it." She smiled. "After all," she reasoned, "we have the advantage of surprise. Scott wouldn't have tried this if he'd thought we'd find out about each other."
"And, let's not forget that there's strength in numbers," Claire pointed out.
Jean reached out and shook Claire's hand. "Trust me. We'll make Scott Trost wish he'd never learned to write."
