Funeral for a friend . . .
Olivia Davidson is dead. Friends and reletives lie in the hospital, homes have been reduced to rubble, and Elizabeth Wakefield and Ken Mathews must lay Olivia to rest. Will they have the strength to pull together and pay tribute to Olivia’s memory?
Enid Rollins is sure Devon Whitelaw saved her life, and will do anything to repay the debt. But Enid has the wrong guy . . . and only Devon knows who the real hero is. How far will Devon go to keep the shocking truth from coming out?
Excrept:
“C’mon, Devon, confess,” Enid said. “We know it was you who saved us. Don’t bother with the false modesty.”
He couldn’t let this go on any longer. Devon had to tell them the truth . . . didn’t he? He opened his mouth to tell Enid that she had the wrong guy, but then he caught a good look at Elizabeth’s face.
She was smiling brightly and looked more beautiful than the angelic image of her that haunted his dreams. In her lovely blue-green eyes there was nothing but pure admiration. And it was all for him – for the guy she believed had saved her.
Knowing he would regret it but unable to stop himself, Devon stepped forward and wrapped Enid in a hug. “I was glad to,” he said.
After disentangling himself from Enid, Devon turned toward Elizabeth. She threw her arms around his neck. As he pulled her close, inhaling her clean, wonderful scent, he realized that he’d never before felt such warmth of love for a girl as he did in Elizabeth’s embrace.
But then Devon shuddered.
Because Elizabeth’s love was based on a lie.
