Lila Fowler is the richest girl at Sweet Valley High. She wears designer clothes, lives in a mansion, and has an allowance at least three times the size of her friends’. And as an only child, she’s always had all of her father’s affection. Lila has everything a girl could possibly want.
But before long Lila’s happiness is shattered. Her father brings home a beautiful new girlfriend, Joan. And Joan has a daughter, Jacqueline, who’s the same age as Lila. Soon it seems that Joan and Jacqueline are taking over Fowler Crest and Lila is furious. The Mr. Fowler drops a bombshell – he and Joan are getting married! If Lila can’t stop them, her life will change forever!
"Can you believe it?" Jacqueline burst out, her eyes shining with suppressed triumoh. “Mommy and your father are getting married!”
Lila stopped just short of the threshold of the sunroom. She felt her knees go weak and grabbed the doorjamb for support.
“Isn’t it marvelous? I feel like a new man,” he father boomed, turning with a rapturous look in his eyes to the spot where Joan was waiting in the sunroom, her eyes glowing with excitement.
“Oh, Lila, thank heavens you’re home. We could hardly wait to share the good news with you,” Joan dried.
Lila had no idea what to say. “I’m – I’m so surprised,” she managed.
“You couldn’t see it in our eyes?” her father asked, grabbing Joan by the wrist and twirling her around.
“Now George, careful of my dress,” Joan said warningly. Lila couldn’t help staring at the large diamond ring gracing Joan’s left hand. This was for real, then. Her father was actually going to marry Joan Borden.
This can’t be happening, she thought. Someone come and wake me up and tell me it’s all nothing but a nightmare!
