I'm PROUD to be friends with Lila. And I'm PSYCHED we've started hanging out again.
So what if she wants me to make a few changes?
That's what best friends do - they make SACRIFICES for each other.
Right?

"Why don't you just call Lila and ask her if you can borrow her video camera?" Elizabeth asked, sounding frustrated. "It doesn't have to be a big deal."
But it was a big deal. Lila and I used to be best friends. Now that we barely spoke, it made the idea of actually asking to borrow something from her feel totally weird.
"I don't know," Bethel chimed in as she shifted in her seat. "I don't trust that girl as far as I could throw her . . . "
"Lila's not bad," I said, taking a deep breath. "She's just . . . unique."
"Well, let me go on record as saying I think it's a bad idea," Bethal said, looking as if she was about to give in. "If she tries to get involved -"
"She won't," I said, even though I was sure that when there was a camera around, Lila would find a way to get herself in front of it. She and I were alike in that way, at least.
"I'ts your call," Bethel said, lifting a shoulder.
I reached over, picked up the Princess phone from the table by the couch, and dialed the number I still knew by heart. It wasn't until it started ringing that I realized I was holding my breath.
