I can do this. I can say good-bye to the love of my life.
I can say, "See ya later! Have fun at college!"
But I would rather say "stay."
And maybe he would. Maybe he would give up everything for me . . .
But do I really want him to?
"Okay, Conner had a brainstorm," Tia said. "You know how his mom is involved in all those charities? Well, he's going to get her to look into some scholarships for you! If she comes through, you are Stanford bound." She grinned at Angel, waiting for him to hug her or kiss her or at least react.
"Tell him not to bother," Angel said.
Not quite the reaction she was going for.
"Excuse me?" she asked leveling him with an incredulous stare. "Anyone taken your temperature lately?"
Angel clapped. "Sit down, Tee," he said. "I have news."
Baffled, Tia just dropped onto the bed. Angel knelt beside her and grabbed her hands with his.
"All right. This is getting weird," she said, her heart pounding with an as-yet-unfounded concern. "Tell me what's going on."
Angel locked eyes with her and took a deep breath. "I've decided I'm not going, Tia," he blurted out. "Forget Stanford. I'm going to stay here with you."
