Once again,
Elizabeth Wakefield's
life is a mess.
It's like everyone
around me has just
gone crazy.
Deranged.
Totally insane.
There's only
one stable thing
in my life
right now
And his name is
Evan Plummer.
"It's a little weird, you know," Jessica said. "You hung out with Evan after school, like, every night last week, then went on that weird little pseudo-date to the movie yesterday, and now you don't have time to talk to him?"
Elizabeth flinched. "It wasn't a date," she said. "Pseudo or whatever. We were just hanging out. As friends." She knew how lame that sounded, and she could tell by the way Jessica's eyes were narrowing that her sister wasn't buying it. "And I really didn't have time to talk today," she insisted. "I had tons of homework."
"Oh, homework, sure," Jessica said. "That's a good excuse. At least, it would have been a year ago."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"I think it's pretty obvious," Jessica stated. "You're avoiding the guy. And I don't know why you would if you're really just friends."
