"I wasn't sure if I sould call to tell you this," Tia began, "but - " she paused. "Okay. Here it is - Conner called me. He's home. And he'll be at school tomorrow."
Elizabeth blinked. She bit her lip, not realizing that several seconds had passed without her responding.
"Liz? You okay?"
"What? Oh, yeah, yes. I'm fine," she said, standing up and grabbing the edge of her loose fitting pink T-shirt, suddenly needing to do something - anything - with her hands. "It just took me a minute to-"
"I'm sorry," Tia broke in. "I shouldn't have called. I didn't mean to get you upset. I just wanted you to be prepared."
"No, I know," Elizabeth said. She held a hand to her chest and closed her eyes, trying to calm herself down. "It's fine. I'm fine. Really. Thanks."
"Yeah?" Tia asked, sounding unsure. No. Not at all.
