Yeah, I did a few stupid things.
Okay, really stupid.
But Maria's not a bitter person.
Now that I've realized I messed up, she'll
forgive me.
She has to.
(Maria Slater)
If Ken thinks I'm going to just forget the way
he's treated me, he's in for a major surprise.
"Look. I just wanted you to know that Melissa and I are over, " Ken blurted out.
Maria's eyebrows shot up. "Why are you telling me this?" she asked.
Ken blinked. Why wouldn't he tell her? Who else even mattered?
"Because, Maria, I did some crazy, stupid stuff," he explained. "And I want you to know it's all done now. I never really wanted to be with Melissa anyway. I only felt sorry for her after everything that happened with Will." He paused, leaning forward. "I just wish we could go back to the way things were."
Maria was silent, staring down at her notes.
Ken wiped his palms on his jeans. His left leg was bouncing nervously under the table. She just needs to figure out how to tell me she feels the same way, he decided.
"What's the point of all this?" she asked, finally looking up at him from her papers.
Ken recoiled, shocked at the coldness in her tone. But then he reminded himself that Maria was always tough. She obviously wanted an official we-should-get-back-together declaration from him before she said anything.
He took a deep breath. "I know you still care, Maria. So, bottom line? I think we should get back together."
