Jeremy wants to get his family settled in their new town.
Conner wants to get over Alanna.
And me? I just want to get as far away from Sweet Valley as possible.
I have a feeling this is on winter break none of us will ever forget.
"Las Vegas," Evan read aloud as he passed yet another road sign. "Via 60 North." It took a minute for the words to sink in, but when they did, Evan's eyes lit up. Immediately he glanced at the number of miles on the sign and started doing the math. That means we could be there by . . . seven-thirty.
How could he ignore the karma that had put him behind the wheel at this crucial moment? The road was practically calling to him. And a slight detour wouldn't keep them from getting to Jeremy's family by tomorrow evening. He glanced over at Jeremy, who was still fast asleep, then over his shoulder at Conner.
"So what do you say, guys? Should we do Vegas?" Jeremy shifted slightly in his seat and mumbled something that sounded like, "Jessica." In the backseat Conner's mouth dropped open, and he began to snore.
"I'll take that as a yes," Evan said, a wide grin spreading across his face. He turned the wheel ever so slightly and took the exit. Las Vegas was exactly what Evan needed. And it was exactly what Conner and Jeremy needed, whether they wanted to admit it or not.
