Conner and I have been friends for a long time.
Sometimes it's scary how well I know him.
Like, the fact that he does things his own way - or not at all.
But I'm not going to let him throw away his future just because things aren't working out the way he wanted.

"Okay. Look. I didn't want to get into this, but . . . Alanna's missing," Conner said.
"Missing?" Tia repeated. "Like, gone?"
"Yeah," Conner said.
"You mean, she ran away?" Andy asked, widening his eyes. Conner nodded. "When?"
"Saturday, I guess. Her parents didn't notice until Sunday morning, so she probably left while they were asleep."
"Wow," Tia said. For once she seemed to be at a loss for words, which made it a perfect time to take off. Conner started to get into his car, but Tia stopped him.
"Wait a second," she said. "This is Monday - you can't skip your guitar lesson. You've got an audition on Wednesday. You need to practice."
Conner turned back to Tia and narrowed his eyes. Was she serious? How was he supposed to even think about anything else when Alanna was missing?
"I don't need to practice," he said evenly. "I need to find Alanna."
"Oh, come on , Conner," Tia said. "Don't be so dramatic. I'm sure she's fine. She's probably already home. But even if she isn't, you have to focus on your audition. You can't go running all over town looking for her. This audition could be a major part of your future."
His future, huh? What about Alanna's? Or didn't she deserve one?

He's Back
