Elizabeth Wakefield's new advice column is the rage at Sweet Valley Middle School. Not only is "Dear Elizabeth" the most popular column is Sixers history, letters from troubled readers are pouring in by the hundreds!
At first, Elizabeth is thrilled by her success. But then she starts to worry. Her friends expect miracle cures for every problem . . . and she's running out of answers. Soon her advice is causing problems instead of solving them! Now Elizabeth's the one who needs help. How can she get out of this mess?
"Elizabeth! Are you listening?" Todd asked.
Elizabeth put down her spoon and licked some chocolate syrup off her lips. She was having a hard time concentrating on what Todd was saying. Casey's ice cream parlor was packed with kids from Sweet Valley Middle School. She couldn't help wondering how many of them had already written to Dear Elizabeth and how things were working out fot them.
She did her best to smile at Todd. "I'm sorry. I guess I've got a lot on my mind. This advice column is a big responsibility, and it's hard to put it on the back burner."
Todd sighed. "Yeah, but are you going to let it take up your whole life?" he asked.
Elizabeth frowned. "Of course not. But I can't just pretend people don't have problems because it's not convenient for me to deal with them."
Todd tapped his spoon on the edge of his dish. "People managed to get along before the Sixers had an advice column, you know."
Elizabeth was starting to feel a little angry. "I've got a lot on my mind," she protested. "Can you understand?"
"Sure. I understand. Give me a call when you're just plain Elizabeth again and not Dear Elizabeth." Todd put down his napkin and slid out of the booth.
