No boys allowed . . .

Winston Egbert wants to join the Boosters, Sweet Valley Middle School's cheering squad. No way, the girls say! A boy on the cheering squad? So what if Winston happens to be a terrific gymnist? So what if he makes up fantastic cheers? Jessica Wakefield and the other Boosters vow they'll do anything to keep Winston off the squad.
At first Winston endures the girs' nasty pranks, Charlie Cashman's bullying, and his classmates' giggles. But something happens to make Winston give up for good.
When the state cheering competition arrives, the Boosters are suprised to see that almost every other squad has a boy as a member. Without Winston, they're sure to lose! Is there any way the Boosters can get Winstons back?

Win-ston! Win-ston!

"Look at this crowd!" Jessica said, scanning the gym. "The bleachers are practically full!"
"Everyone wants to watch Winston fall on his face," Janet remarked.
Winston ran accross the gym and stood in front of the Boosters. He was wearing black sweatpants, a black T-shirt, and brand-new sneakers.
"Nice outfit, Winston," Ellen comented. "Did somebody die?"
Janet signaled for the Boosters to line up next to her, the directed Winston to the middle of the line. "OK, everybody," she called to the audience. "As you all know, Winston Egbert wants to try out for the Boosters." Janet turned and whispered to the Boosters, "Let's start with 'Lean to the Left,' OK?"
Janet hadn't even bothered to ask Winston if he knew the cheer, Jessica noticed. She sneaked a peek at him out the corner of her eye. There was a thin layer of perspiration on his upper lip, and she was almost certain his hands were trembling. There was no way Winston could survive the audition they had planned.
