When Ms. Shepard becomes the sudent teacher in Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefields social studies class, the school becomes a lot more exciting. Ms. Shepard organizes a weekend field trip to a pioneer farm where the sixth graders will have to live just as the pioneers did - with no modern conveniences.
The boys bet that the girls won't be able to survive without their hair dryers. The girls insist that the boys can't live without TV and junk food. The battle of the year is on, and both sides are determined to win!
"Girls are held together with makeup and hair goop," Charlie Cashman said. "And you're not going to have any of those things at the farm. I guarantee the girls are going to fall apart on the first day."
Elizabeth glanced at her twin and saw a spark in Jessica's blue-green eyes. "I know who's going to do the falling apart, and it's not going to be the girls," Jessica snapped back. "Which one of you boys is going to be able to go for ahlf an hour without coke or a candy bar?"
"Todd and Charlie are right," Ken Matthews said. "It's the girls who won't be able to handle pioneer life."
"Oh, yeah?" Elizabeth countered. "Well, we'll just have to wait until this weekend. We'll see who can really live like pioneers - boys or girls," she said, giving Todd an angry look.
"wanna bet?" Todd said.
Elizabeth didn't hesitate for a second. She turned to Todd with a sweet smile. "You're on Wilkins!"
How will the GO program change the twins' lives? Ciao, Sweet Valley!
