Married, with children . . .

As part of a health-class project, all the students at Sweet Valley Middle School are pairing up into simulated marriages. The assignment is to manage a make-believe household and care for an egg that represents a baby. The only problem is, their teacher, Mr. Siegel, is picking the couples!
Elizabeth Wakefield finds herself paired with snobby Bruce Patman, who refuses to help out. Jessica Wakefield's pretend husband, Rick Hunter, teases her mercilessly and refuses to cut it out. And Todd Wilkins gets stuck with Lila Fowler, who only wants to eat out!
Can the middle-schoolers survive two whole weeks of married life?

A big sticky mess . . .

Mr. Seigel placed the egg in Jessica's hand. "Now," he said. "Little Steven Fido is your responsibility. One of you must have him with you at all times, or see to it that he is properly taken care of. I'll expect you to return him entact at the end of the next experiment. If he breaks, you will lose five points off your grade."
"Sure you don't want me to hold him, Jessica?" Rick teased. "You know how clumsy you are. Look at the mess you made in the cafeteria you made yesterday."
"I made!" Jessica said. She felt herself gritting her teeth. What had happened in the cafeteria was all his fault. He knew it as well as she did. So why was he needling her? Her hand involunterily balled into a fist and . . .
CRACKKKKK!
"Eeuuuuu," the audience moaned.
Jessica looked down in horror. Runny yellow egg yolk oozed from between her fingers and dripped down onto the stage. Rick let out a loud burst of laughter, and Mr. Seigel shook his head sadly.
"I-I'm sorry," Jessica stammered, wishing she could just drop right down through a big hole in the stage and never be seen again.
