It's the best field trip of the year: Identical twins Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield and their classmates from Sweet Valley Middle School are taking a ferry to a Pacific island, where they'll get to see porpoises and unusual birds. But soon after they set sail, the twins discover that their teachers have been left behind!
Desperate to get back to shore, the girls search for the captain - and find him bound and gagged! The boat is in the hands of theives, and the twins and their friends are in serious danger!

Elizabeth gasped. Inside the passenger room of the Island Dreamer were two men, all tied up! One man was wearing a white captains uniform, and the other was in navy blue work clothes. They were both unconcious, and the crewman's forehead had a thin trickle of blood on it.
Elizabeth felt her heart start to pound. What could this mean? Suddenly her uneasiness about the field trip rose up inside her agin - only much more sharply than before. As the white uniform opened his eyes groggily and blinked at them. "Did you hear me knocking?" he asked weakly.
"Yes," Jessica whispered, staring at him.
Elizabeth swallowed hard. "Who-who are you?" she asked, trying to sound brave. "What happened here?"
"I'm Captain Thomas Moreland," the man said, his words a little slurred. "I own the Island Dreamer. This is my crewman, Walt Lufkin. We've been hijacked."
