Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield and their friends have joined the girl' basketball team. It's hard work . . . but a lot of fun! They ask the boys' team to come root for them - it's only fair, since the Boosters cheer at every one of the boys' games. But the boys say no way - girls sports are stupid.
Outraged, the girls boycott the boys' games. And once the boosters stop cheering, the undefeated boys team starts losing . . . and keeps losing.
The superstitious boys are getting desperate. They need the girls in order to win. After the boys beg and beg, the girls finally agree to come back under one condition. They not only want the boys to come to their games, they want boy cheerleaders!
"We need you!" Bruce cried, holding his arms out at his sides. "We need the Boosters. We'll lose if you don't help." He tried hard to keep the sincere look on his face. "I'm asking, no, begging you to come inside and cheer. Help us win the championship for Sweet Valley Middle School. Take pity on us." He tried to look as sad as he could.
The Honeybees just looked bored. Ellen leaned down and retied her sneaker.
"Look, we'll come to every single game you guys play," Bruce said desperately.
"The season's almost over," Lila pointed out.
"We'll cheer loudly," Bruce said, thinking fast. "We'll come early and leave late."
Maria yawned and scratched her leg.
"Come on," Bruce pleaded. "Halftime's almost over. Name your price."
"Hmm." Jessica got an evil glint in her eye. She motioned the Honeybees over, and they huddled together, their backs to him.
Finally the turned back around. The look of triumph on their faces was terrible to see. Bruce swallowed hard.
"OK," Janet said, a frightening sneer on her face. "We'll make you a deal. An offer you can't refuse."
