A broken heart . . .
It's spring break, and identical twins Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield are taking a scuba diving course at Pirates Cove. On their first ive the twins discover the remains of an old pirate ship, and half a golden heart buried in the sand.
Soon the twins receive sopooky chain letters demanding that what was taken from the sea be returned. Jessica continues the chain; Elizabeth doesn't. Suddenly terrible things start happening to Elizabeth. She finds threatening notes in her room and live scorpion in her lunch bag.
Can Elizabeth discover the secret of the Golden Heart before the curse destroys her?
A shipwrek!
Elizabeth's eyes scanned the ocean floor. Amazing. There were all sorts of interesting things down here. A piece of sea glass. And empty ink jar. A small length of chain with a sailing clamp on it . . .
Wham! It took all Elizabeth's dicipline not to gasp and suck water into her lungs. Her hand had just bumped against something hard and crusted with barnicles. Something muddy-colored and almost hidden. Curiously, she reached down and her hand closed over it.
Immediately, the water around her began to feel cold. Icy cold.
Brrrrr. Elizabeth tossed the object into her bag and started to swim upward. But a sudden strong current pulled her off course.
Elizabeth's heart thumped hard and she tried hard not to panic. Sometimes these currents could be stronger than she was. She kicked her legs harder, her fins scraping the silty floor.
The current seemed to wrap itself around her, and turn her over and over in it's grasp. As she turned, she watched the powerful current seem to pull the floor of the ocean apart. With each revolution, she caught the glimpse of a mast. A pothole. The caved-in side of a boat.
A shipwreck!
