Who's afraid of Elizabeth Wakefield?
Everyone thinks of Elizabeth Wakefield as the nice twin. That's why she loves her Halloween mask - it's so scary that no one can believe Elizabeth is behind it.
But her appearance isn't the only thing that changes when Elizabeth puts on the mask - little by little it makes Elizabeth act evil . . . only Elizabeth doesn't know it. It's up to her twin sister, Jessica, to destroy the mask . . . before Elizabeth does something she'll regret forever . . .
Beware of Elizabeth . . .
Jessica reached out for her sister's face. Maybe if she could just see Elizabeth for a moment instead of that scary mask, she could -
"Take your hands off me!" Elizabeth's voice rang out.
Shocked, Jessica drew her hand back. "Elizabeth, you never talk like that," she whispered, half to herself.
Elizabeth laughed. "Yeah, right," she said sarcastically. "Well, you do what you want for Halloween. I'm glad I came up with this. It's way, way cooler than any lame-brained sea monster."
She sounds like me, Jessica realized, putting her hand to her mouth. She sounds like me on one of my mean days! She forced a laugh. "OK, Lizzie," she said aloud. "I guess I sometimes sound a little like that. Why don't you take off that mask now and stop the kidding around?"
"Kidding around?" Elizabeth's voice took on a hard, cold edge. "What makes you think I'm just kidding around?"
Jessica took a step backwards. "I mean - " she began.
"I mean, I mean," Elizabeth said mokinly. She folded her arms. "This mask is going to make everyone else wish they'd just stayed home Halloween night." And she turned to go, her horrible laugh echoing down the hall.
