Caught in a lie . . .

Lila Fowler is dreading Valentine's Day. She has no valentine, and she's dertermined not to let her friends in the exclusive Unicorn Club know. So she tells everyone that she does have a boyfriend and sends herself flowers and chocolates to prove it. Her valentine's name is Gray Williams, and he's rich, cute - and completely made-up.
The Unicorns are totally impressed, and Lila is thrilled - until her friends pressure her into bringing Gray to the Valentine's dance. How can she bring a date that doesn't exsist?

Lila's Valentine's lie . . .

As Jake headed for the lunch line, Lila could feel all the Boosters gazing at her sympahetically. It was unbearable. She took a deep breath.
"Whew, what a relief!" she exclaimed, tossing her hair over her shoulder. "After I dumped Jake so hard last weekend, I thought he'd never speak to me again," Leaning back in her chair, she fanned herself with her clipboard. "I'm really glad he's decided to be big about it. I think dating someone else will definately be good for him."
"What?" Jessica asked in a shocked tone. "You never told me you and Jake broke up."
Lila shrugged ruefully. "He asked me not to tell anyone," she lied. "You know how it is. I guess he felt embarrassed about it."
"Gosh, Lila, you really handled it well. He even seemed grateful that you didn't hate his guts or anything," Janet said admiringly.
"Yeah, well . . ." Lila said modestly.
"So why did you break up with him?" Jessica wanted to know.
Lila felt her heart sink. Why would I break up with Jake Hamilton? Why would anyone ever break up with him?
"Lila?" Jessica pressed. "I asked why you broke up."
Think, Lila, think . . .
Oh, because of . . . Gray, actually," Lila said cooly.
