Anything to win . . .
For Jessica Wakefield, the upcoming California Games are a chance of a lifetime. As a member of the Sweet Valley Middles School cheerleading squad, Jessica's always known she's a super athlete. And now that she's earned a place on the school's gymnastics team, she's ready to prove her acrobatic skills to the whole state.
Jessica's sure she's good enough to win a gold medal at the games - until she comes face-to-face with Dawn Maven, the star gymnist of a rival team. Dawn is strong, graceful, and rithless. She'll do whateve it takes to win - and that includes sabotaging Jessica's performance!
Jessica wanted a fair competition. But will she have to play by Dawn's dirty rules to win?
Revenge
Coach Arlin gripped Jessica by the arms. "Listen to yourself. Do you have any idea how ridiculous you sound? We can't go over there and accuse that poor girl of faking an injury just so she could somehow sabotage your routine."
"But that's what happened!" Jessica insisted. Her eyes swelled with tears. She knew that Dawn Maven had oiled the bar and made her fall. Why wouldn't anyone believe her?
"You have to put this meet behind you and concentrate on the next one," Coach Arlin told Jessica, handing her a tissue.
"Or just concentrate on the California Games," Amy offered, patting Jessica on the back. "We're still going, you know."
Jessica nodded and forced a smile. She dried her eyes. "You guys are right," she said. "There are other things I should be concentrating on."
Namely revenge, she though as she narrowed her eyes at Dawn.
